Major news concerning Etihad Airways recently has been its merger with airberlin, another leading airline.

The joining of these two airlines has opened up many new avenues. Etihad, which is situated in the UAE, can now offer routes to parts of Europe, such as flights to Germany, through airberlin. There has also been a combining of Frequent Flyer programs and codeshares, meaning that air miles can be earned with both airlines that can used on either of them.

The first inaugural flight to Abu Dhabi by airberlin was this morning, with its been greeted by the traditional water cannons as it moved over the runway.
